About Me

Last Updated: Monday, March 17, 2008
This is a page that everybody seems to add to their personal site, so here I go.

This is me?

Me at the Loch Ness castle

My name is Ronald Rosier, and I am a 25 year old Flemish (Flanders, Belgium) guy who got lost a little and spend his time sinse March 2007 in Oslo, capital of Norway. Before that people found me in Dundee (Scotland) where I was getting a Masters and in Saint-Etienne (France). Before that I was stuck in Belgium for 22 years.

I started to develop this personal site and blog by the end of my eduction to show off a little for getting a job. Seems it worked well because I only had 1 interview before I could pack my rucksack and fly over here. Looking back now at the code of this site, I really don't understand how I got a job, that's why I'm now in the process of re-architecturing the entire site in my "free"?!?!?! time. The reason why Norway?? Just a of spontanious moment of madness that I had by the end of 2006. It's close to the EU, and fairly unknown to me. It also allowed me to learn new things such as the Norwegian language (but it's quite difficult because everybody hear speak english).

Currenty I'm the tech-lead and architect/developer/designer/documenter of an internal web application/portal developing project for administrative purposes. Well, I've been the only person on the team for almost a year: no wonder that I'm wearing so many hats. It's a very challenging task with an extreme high learning curve. So I guess I'll stay here at least another year ;-)

Recently, I try to keep up more and more my website by posting articels related to the technologies I'm interested in and the work I'm currently doing. Also about new stuff that I learn. But time, as always, is against me to keep these promises. I really put my hat off for those people who write constantly such extreme detailed technical blog posts, mostly more than 1 in the month.

Like I said, the project I'm on has a very high learning curve, so every day I'm learning new things, reading books and blogs about new technologies such as Ajax, WCF, WF, (Web) Security, LINQ, SOA, ADO.NET Data Services, Architecturing, ... and I'm working after hours on getting some Microsoft Certifications in Web Developing.

In contrairy to what you may start to think now after reading this, I'm not a "nerd". At leat not in the real term of it. I don't play games, am not a "gadget-lover", am not a hard-coded freak that goes into bits and bytes and don't know anything about those "social sites" and environments on the net.
Instead, during my (again) "free" time, I just spend it all on music. Yep, that's my greatest love for over 15 years. And if I tell you that I'm pretty much a walking music encyclopedia from everything between 1950 and 1975 you'll run away screeming, that is if you're my age or younger. My greatest love is Blues. From the very first Mississippi blues (Robert Johnson, Memphis Slim) to the electrified Blues (B.B. King, John Lee Hooker) and the 50's Rhythm 'n' Blues (The Real RnB) like Ray Charles. Going further to the British Blues/R'n'B groups (Animals, Rolling Stones, Manfred Mann) and the 70's Blues guys like Eric Clapton and Gary Moore. But ofcourse it all started with the real Rock 'n' roll (Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly,...), followed by the British boom (Beatles, Searchers, Hollies) and ending with some hard rock groups like deep purple and led zeppelin before others started to destroy the rock. Don't get me wrong, I'm very open and my "collection" contain songs and artists from the 1920's until 2008. As a matter of fact, I got currently 29746 songs and counting, spread over (most of them converted to mp3 for ease) about 1000 LP's, 500 CD's, and a whole bunch of 45" singles.
If you ever meet me, don't get me started about this subject :D
